McDonough Outreach History

In 1971 two brothers from the True Church of God In Christ, Inc. visited the family home of Charles and Rosa English in McDonough, GA to inquire about land. During this inquiry, Mr. English was asked if he would be interested in hosting a Bible Study in his home. After talking it over with the family everyone agreed and the Bible studies, led by Bishop W. F. Lucas, began in the English’s home June of 1971. Through the studies, hearts were touched and on December 26, 1971 seventeen people were baptized. From that time the Mission began to flourish. Bishop Lucas began bible class on Tuesdays. He taught from the bible how to be obedient to the Word and to keep the standard.

When Bishop Lucas’ health began to fail in 1986, Elder Zed Lucas took over teaching the Bible class. He also taught the bible with understanding and love. The current Elder leading the Bible Study, Elder Gary Battle, assisted both Bishop W. F. Lucas and Elder Zed Lucas. He has continued in the same tradition and standard that was set. The Bible studies have moved to Wednesday nights and are held in Sister Sue McCullum’s home, the daughter of Brother Charles English. She has dedicated a large room to the mission to accommodate the growing number of people.

We are truly witnessing the work of the Lord in this ministry. Plans have been made to reach the growing area of McDonough Georgia and Henry County. Under the guidance of the True Church of God In Christ’s present leader, Bishop Oprie Jeffries, and the generosity of the English family, the McDonough Mission has plans to begin building a church soon!
